Ayurvedic approach to skin and health care works precisely embracing a person’s lifestyle. Ayurveda focuses not only on the person individually by addressing the emotional, nutritional, balance, sleep patterns, but also focuses on the kind of environment they live in. In skincare too, Ayurvedic products are designed to suit your doshas, so selecting the appropriate one will give you better results. The Ayurvedic doshas and their connection to skincare are explained below.
Ayurvedic Dosha
According to Ayurveda, three energies (dosha) circulate in our body, and for each person, these energies determine the overall health. Same applies to the skin too, the largest organ in the human body. The glow of healthy skin is directly related to the health of a person. The person’s dosha plays a vital role in this aspect.
The three doshas
The three doshas present in a person are Pitta, Kapha, and Vata. A balance of these doshas reflects in the health and healthy skin of a person. According to Ayurveda, choosing a skincare regime based on your dosha type is a very crucial one.
The skincare regime varies for the doshas. They are as follows,
Pitta Dosha
The skin of these people is very sensitive, soft, and of medium thickness. When in balance, Pitta Skin has a dewy, radiant glow.. When out of balance, they tend to get tanned easily. And, are vulnerable to heat and spicy foods, which results in acne, sunburn, or sunspots along with broken capillaries, blemishes, redness, and wrinkles.
The Pitta type skin is normally hot, and hence cooling agents that provide soothing to the warn skin need to be applied.
One can cleanse their skin with Musk turmeric and water. This provides a cooling sensation to the skin.
Cleansing can be followed by hydrating the skin. This can be done effectively using Shesha Ayurveda’s Steam distilled Rose Water, followed by a sandalwood cream or gel.
You can apply Shesha Ayurveda steam-distilled Rose Water all through the day to hydrate your skin.
A little massage with Shesha Ayurveda Eladi Thailam on the face and neck also helps calm and soothe the skin.
Haircare: Massage Shesha Ayurveda Neelibringadi Intensive Hair Treatment Oil/Shesha Ayurveda cold-processed centrifuged Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and wash your hair.
Body care: Massage Nalpamaradi oil onto your skin before a shower.
Vata Dosha
The elements of air and ether need nourishment regularly. When in balance, these skin types are olive toned, slightly cool, dry, and has delicate pores. An imbalance leads to excess dryness, fine lines, and wrinkles predominant around eyes. Cold-pressed oils, pure ghee, etc. helps nourish the skin.
Cleansing of the skin can be done with Shesha Ayurveda Tejaswini face wash powder.
After cleansing, hydrate your skin with Shesha Ayurveda’s hydrating mist, traditionally steam-distilled rose water.
Moisturize with Shesha Ayurveda Eladi thailam which helps retain the glow in your skin fighting off flaky skin.
A night care routine is always better for this skin type. Adding Shesha Ayurveda Nalpamaradi thailam as part of your night care regime leaves your skin nourished. Massage Shesha Ayurveda Nalpamaradi thailam onto your face for 30 minutes and then wash it off. Follow with your night cream.
A routine skincare is much needed. Hence you can apply Kasturi Manjal / Musk Turmeric/Kumkumadi Suvarna Ubtan mixed with water/ curd/ honey depending on your skin type as a face and neck pack and wash off using cold water once dried. Follow up with two drops of Eladi Thailam on face and neck, giving a light massage. This can be done 3-4 times a week to obtain a nourished skin.
Hair care: Massage Shesha Ayurveda Neelibringadi Intensive Hair Treatment Oil/Shesha Ayurveda cold-processed centrifuged Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and wash your hair.
Kapha dosha
This skin type reflects the qualities of both water and air. People with this skin type need not only external detoxification but also internal ones too. When in balance, this skin type is soft, pale, supple, cool, and moist. When out of balance, they are prone to excess oils, congestion, excess moisture, etc.
People with Kapha skin type needs cleansing at least twice a day.
Cleansing of the Kapha skin type can be done with Shesha Ayurveda Tejaswini face wash powder / Multani Mitti activated with Aloe Vera gel/water.
After cleansing, tone the skin with Shesha Ayurveda Pure Rose Water Toner, use moisturizer and sunscreen.
Cleansing at night can be done with Shesha Ayurveda Kumkumadi Suvarna Ubtan+ honey as a face pack. You can also apply 2-3 drops of Shesha Ayurveda Kumkumadi Thailam and leave it overnight.
A face pack with Shesha Ayurveda Musk Turmeric+water or Shesha Ayurveda Kumkumadi Suvarna Ubtan+ honey/rosewater as a face pack thrice a week is ideal for the Kapha skin type.
Body care: You can use Shesha Ayurveda Nalpamaradi thailam as a massage oil before bath. Also, Shesha Ayurveda Cold processed, centrifuged Virgin Coconut Oil can be applied to balance Kapha.
